چکیده

The potassium permanganate oxidation of methylated humic acid from a Spanish lignite yielded mainly straight-chain alkanes together with a mixture of fatty acids, methyl straight-chain alkyl ketones, aliphatic dicarboxylic, phenolic and benzenecarboxylic acids. Furthermore, some unusual compounds such as dehydroabietic and bromohydroxybenzoic acids and bis(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate were also identified. Although the analytical characteristics permit them to be included within the concept of humic acids, the oxidation products are closer to those from organic geochemical substances such as kerogen.

Nature of Plant Components Identified in Soil Humic Acids

INTRODUCTION The origin of the humic acid fraction of soils is still unclear in spite of extensive investigations accomplished over the last years (ref. 1). Different origins have been proposed, based on the most recent theory or on the applica tion of the latest analytical method. Thus, it has been proposed that soil humic acids are derived from lignins, microbial activity and synthesis of me...

Short Communication Degradative Oxidation Products of the Melanin of Ulocladium Atrum

It is known that many soil fungí synthesize brown, large aromatic polymers (fungal melanins), chemically related to soil humic acids (Martin and Haider, 1971; Schnitzer and Neyroud, 1975). Since the chemical constituents (or at least, their degradation products) and the physicochemical properties of fungal melanins are comparable to those of humic acids, it is possible that fungal metabolism ma...

Enhancing Purification of Surface Water by Potassium Permanganate Addition

The aim of the present research is studying the effect of potassium permanganate addition on the pre-oxidation and coagulation of the surface water. River Nile and El Rayah El Tawfeky of Benha city, Egypt were the surface water supply used in this research. The results showed that El Rayah El Tawfeky raw water had higher turbidity concentration and humic acids absorbance (8.5 NTU and 0.024, res...

The physico-chemical properties and biostimulative activities of humic substances regenerated from lignite

The positive effect of humic acids on the growth of plant roots is well known, however, the mechanisms and role of their physical structure in these processes have not been fully explained yet. In this work, South-Moravian lignite was oxidized by means of nitric acid and hydrogen peroxide to produce a set of regenerated humic acids. The elemental composition, solid state stability and solution ...

Ultra‐high performance supercritical fluid chromatography of lignin‐derived phenols from alkaline cupric oxide oxidation

Traditional chromatographic methods for the analysis of lignin-derived phenolic compounds in environmental samples are generally time consuming. In this work, an ultra-high performance supercritical fluid chromatography method with a diode array detector for the analysis of major lignin-derived phenolic compounds produced by alkaline cupric oxide oxidation was developed. In an analysis of a col...
